Lesson 4: The king meets the friend of God shown to him in his dream

دست بگشاد و کنارانش گرفت
همچو عشق اندر دل و جانش گرفت
همچو عشق اندر دل و جانش گرفت
˹The king˺ opened his arms and embraced him; like love, he took him into his heart and soul.

دست و پیشانیش بوسیدن گرفت
وز مقام و راه پرسیدن گرفت
وز مقام و راه پرسیدن گرفت
He began to kiss his hand and brow, and to ask about his station and the road ˹of his journey˺.
Couplet 95
پرس‌پرسان می‌کشیدش تا به صدر
گفت گنجی یافتم آخر به صبر
گفت گنجی یافتم آخر به صبر
Asking question after question, he drew him to the seat of honour; he said, “At last, through patience, I have found a treasure.”

گفت ای نور حق و دفع حرج
معنی الصبر مفتاح الفرج
معنی الصبر مفتاح الفرج
He said, “O Light of God and remover of hardship, O meaning of ‘Patience is the key to relief’!”

ای لقای تو جواب هر سؤال
مشکل از تو حل شود بی قیل‌وقال
مشکل از تو حل شود بی قیل‌وقال
“O you whose meeting is the answer to every question; through you the difficulty is solved without debate.”

ترجمانی هرچه ما را در دل است
دست‌گیری هر که پایش در گل است
دست‌گیری هر که پایش در گل است
“You are the interpreter of all that is in our hearts; you are the one who takes the hand of everyone whose foot is stuck in the mire ˹of the material world˺.”

مرحبا یا مجتبی یا مرتضی
إن تغب جاء القضاء ضاق الفضا
إن تغب جاء القضاء ضاق الفضا
“Welcome, O chosen one, O approved one! If you become absent, ˹divine˺ decree comes and the wide expanse grows narrow.”

أنت مولی القوم من لا یشتهی
قد ردی کلا لئن لم ینته
قد ردی کلا لئن لم ینته
“You are the master of these people; whoever does not desire ˹you˺ has perished. ‘But no! If he does not desist’…”
